Best Nootropics For Energy

Starting at the Top

Today is my best nootropics for energy article.  Energy is what gets us around. It is responsible for our motivation, for our dedication to our day and how we get through our day and how we accomplish our day. How we think is dictated by our energy level. There is any number of things we do that are controlled by our energy level so energy is vital to us.

What if your day is full every day and the one thing you do to give yourself energy you don’t have the energy for. Exercise is an important part of a healthy life and it alone gives us energy, but if we are so low on energy we can’t get there, we need to do something about it and get energy another way.

Personally, I work 12 hour days and 12 hour nights. I have to be in top mental form for the entire 12 hours period. It’s stressful and very busy so having the energy I want is imperative.

You may have a lot going on in your life every day. Kids add more to your lives than anything else and they need your energy. Their extra activities, school work bad dreams keeping you up, when they are sick, and just when they are in constant movement around the house calling out “mom” or “dad”.

Being a student at university is a crazy life. Studying to all hours of the night and even all night and then attending classes the next day. This is common practice and a little extra energy would help.

I’m going to list the most known and best nootropics for energy and in doing so I will also give the proper dosage to get the energy you want.

Rhodiola Rosearhodiola rosea

Research has shown that if you’re looking for a natural way to boost your energy and maybe increase athletic performance, then Rhodiola Rosea simply put will fit the bill. It is so popular these days simply for its ability to increase your energy and athletic performance.

This study reveals that Rhodiola increases your red blood cell count while it lowers oxidative damage. (1) Since your red blood cells are responsible for carrying oxygen and Rhodiola increases your red blood cell count you have more oxygen heading to your muscles. This will obviously help you in physical exercise, and will also help you with your daily fatigue.

Dose: When you buy, most brands sell 300mg capsules. That is a good place to start for a good boost of energy. It doesn’t need to be stacked with much as it is pretty good at giving you energy all on its own.

Modafinil was originally created as a drug to fight Narcolepsy. If you fall asleep out of the blue during your day you have Narcolepsy and Modafinil was made for you.

Beyond this, Modafinil is the nootropic you need to stay alert and awake at work and during the everyday things you do that zap your energy like my kids (just kidding). You can spend your entire day being alert and focused yet be able to fall asleep at night. (2)

Beyond these benefits, it also gives you more. It improves your general cognitive abilities.

Dose: Modafinil comes most often in 100mg tablets although I’ve seen it in other amounts higher and lower. Stick with 100mg because taking more than this won’t do you any good. Modafinil has an on and off switch and this dose turns it on, others don’t give you any more effect than you already have.

Some people feel 100mg at a time is too much. If this is you, then cut the tablet in half and take it twice during your day for a total of 100mg.

L-Tyrosine is a precursor to dopamine and that means that your body will metabolize it and turn it into Dopamine. When this happens you obviously have more Dopamine in your brain. Now that you have more Dopamine you will feel more alert, productive, more motivated and of course have more energy. You will also get a pretty good boost in your mood. (3)

Dose: Th recommended dose I’ve come across the vast majority of time is 100mg. I haven’t taken L-Tyrosine myself yet, but 100mg is where I would start for sure. The only other thing I would say about taking L-Tyrosine would be to take it on an empty stomach.

You will find that Noopept is a great nootropic for boosting your mental energy. Stick to the suggested dosage to get the great effects without feeling like you are hyped up on caffeine. Noopept gives you improved energy, focus, clarity of thought, motivation and heightened creativity is also associated with Noopept.

Dose: Unlike the other nootropics I’ve mentioned above, you only need to take a very small amount to get the effect you need. Noopept is extremely potent and therefore only 3-5mg at a time are needed. You can take this safely up to 3 times per day although keep clear of bedtime or you may just have too much energy to sleep.

Everyone knows Caffeine, if you don’t, hmmmm. Caffeine usually consumed by drinking coffee in the morning for that boost to get you awake.

Caffeine actually replaces the chemical Adenosine. What does Adenosine do and why is this important? Adenosine keeps your nervous system from getting too excited.  Trade that for Caffeine and you get the reverse.

Now, when Caffeine targets the receptor dopamine is released. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that activates the pleasure center of our brains.

So what do you get from taking Caffeine? Increased alertness for sure, but not for long. Drink it in the morning and get that ‘get going’ effect.

Pramiracetam is the strongest of the Racetam family of nootropics and also the longest lasting. You can take it on its own or even better, make it part of a stack. Including it in a stack greatly increases the effects of the other nootropics in the stack. That’s a beauty of Pramiracetam. It’s also pretty safe too.

Pramiracetam’s main effect is increased mental energy. The effect when taking on its own is approx 8 hours give or take a little per person.

Dose: It is suggested that you take 300 mg twice per day (600 mg total), but recommendation ranges go all the way up to 1200 mg per day.

A very potent nootropic here. Let’s just say it is about 60 times stronger than its predecessor Piracetam. It increases the density of dopamine receptors which in turn significantly increases your energy, stamina, and motivation. Perfect for a week with your children home on school break.

Phenylpiracetam also has another property. This is improved physical performance. It does so much that it is on the list of banned substances from the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Dose: The recommended dose for Phenylpiracetam can range from 100-250mg at a time with food. You can repeat this up to three times a day, but no more. The maximum recommended daily dose is 750 mg and 3 times a day covers that quite well.

  1. I must say that I found this article to be very helpful as I see that more and more people begin to use nootropic supplements for everything. I would like to use Noopept as I need to improve my energy to the next level. It is not expensive at all and what is important to me, it does not work as caffeine.

    • Noopept is a great nootropic, but extremely potent.  just a few mg and you have a dose and the effect you need.  I really like this one a lot.

  3. The best nootropics for energy is an interesting read, I would love to get into this more because I have heard so much about this lately.  I have been taking pruivit keto supplements and find them amazing.

Rhodiola Rosea looks like a great natural way to boost energy, I just still am amazed at how we research all these products and who tested them out first?

L-Tyrosine, Noopept, Pramiracetam, and Optimind all look like great products but it is like a minefield, which one do you take?  I know they all have great benefits to your health.

So much choice out there I think it is getting hard to choose the best products, thanks for this great insight!.

    • Thank you Kris,

Of those you listed, my favourites are Noopept and Optimind.  Optimind being a stack with great great reviews and Noopept a very potent nootropic.  Very effective at a low dose.

  4. This is a really useful article to research in relation to what nutrition to feed yourself to keep at an optimal level of performance in the daily activities you undertake. Each Nootropic ingredient sounds extremely appealing to me!

I’m particularly drawn to the optimind poroduct for the mental advatanges it gives you.

    • Optimind is a seriously good nootropic stack and one that I recommend to anyone.  Keep with the suggested dose and you get the effect you want.

Thanks for the great comment Darren

  5. Hello Stew,

Thank you for this informative article on the best Nootropics for energy. I have heard of rodiola Rosea for quite some time now, but have never taken it myself. I know that it is on the top list of best adaptogens to take for energy and feeling better mentally.

I am interested in this Modafinil as well for staying alert. I always have trouble sleeping so sometimes I need a kick to stay alert and awake. I’ve always struggled to get sleep, so it affected my work performance. It also messes with your memory when you can’t get a good night’s sleep.

I appreciate you creating this list and giving lots of detailed information on dosages. It is very important that people don’t take too much of a vitamin or combine it with another vitamin that also has the same dosage. Many times, addictions are formed when people take too much of a substance. Some of the other ones may also contain synthetic ingredients that can be harmful to the body.

I would recommend supplements with as much natural ingredients as possible for better absorption. Thank you for the information and I look forward to your future content.

    • thank you for that great comment.  I appreciate it a lot.  The world of nootropics is quite exiting these days as it catches on more and more.

      Lots more to come

  6. The part where u talked about working for 12 hours a day and 12 hours a night got me thinking, Does it mean you don’t sleep at all in a day all by taking Nootropics? And by the way what kind of work do you do,  I will like to know; kidding!! I have not taken any form of Nootropics yet but I might try one out as a result of the enthusiasm from your post.
