Introduction to Nootropic Stacks You Can Make Yourself

What is Nootropic Stacking?

Nootropic stacking is the practice where you combine two or more nootropic supplements together.  The combined benefits received from the stack would normally not be achieved if each how to stack nootropics

supplement were to be taken individually.  This article is all about great custom nootropic stacks.

Let’s give an example. You could take one nootropic supplement to enhance your focus and another to enhance your memory.

You can, of course, make your own by buying individual nootropics and combining them into one stack or you can purchase a pre-made commercial stack.

Stack Examples

L-Theanine and Caffeine

If you’re looking for a boost in both your energy and focus then a combination of “L-Theanine and Caffeine” is the perfect and most effective stack to achieve both of these effects. This particular stack is rather easy to make (even for Nootropic Stack newcomers) as these are both commonly available supplements at any vitamin or health shop.

Energy and focus are the keys to this stack. You have the stimulant effect of caffeine and the calm focus effect of the L-theanine.

L-Theanine

L-theanine causes an increase in alpha-wave activity, the brainwave state associated with relaxation and attention.

It is also a recognized anxiolytic (anxiety reducer) that has been shown to improve our quality of sleep and improve our mental and physical stress symptoms by producing a feeling of calmness, reduced heart rate and blood pressure.

The increase in alpha- waves promote relaxation without causing drowsiness or a sedated effect. Alpha brain-wave production also happens during deep meditation, when all sensory inputs are minimized and our mind is generally clear of unwanted thoughts or distractions. Interestingly, stimulating alpha waves has also been shown to boost creativity and alleviate depression.

Caffeine

Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant. When it reaches your brain you get the feeling of alertness. Caffeine enhances our concentration, improves attention, and focus. The downside is increased heart rate, blood pressure, and anxious/jittery feelings.

If you want to make your own L-theanine + Caffeine stack, it’s quite simple. The proper ratio to get the effect this stack is meant for is 1:2 caffeine and L-theanine.

Keeping this ratio will provide you with improved concentration and alertness, but counteract anxious feelings and jitteriness.

If you look at coffee, for example, there is generally 80-100mg of caffeine. Most of the time you can expect there to be 100mg. To make the stack with a cup of coffee you would need 160mg L-theanine

You can also purchase L-theanine pills and caffeine pills if you aren’t a coffee lover.

For a mild but effective and even easier method is to drink green tea which has both caffeine and l-theanine.

You can also opt for a pre-made stack. The company Natural Stacks makes a stack of caffeine and L-Theanine in a good ratio, and call it “Smart Caffeine”.

Ginkgo Biloba, Bacopa Monnieri & Lion’s Mane Stack

This is another great and natural stack used to increase your focus, learning and memory.

Ginkgo Biloba

There is plenty of scientific evidence that the leaves from the Ginkgo Biloba tree to show that Ginkgo is a great supplement for improving our cognitive performance and to reduce our anxiety levels.

Bacopa Monnieri

Bacopa has always been used to increase cognitive processing and making learning new things simpler and quicker. The ability to have better learning powers while under stress is another proven effect of Bacopa as well as the possibility of being able to recall recently learned information much easier, for example, take a test or student exams.

When you think of Bacopa, you also think of memory enhancement and rightly so because it is the most well-known benefit of this herb. You have to stick with it for a while as many studies have shown that memory improvements take up to 4 – 6 weeks before taking full effect, but when they do the results are significant. [1]

Lion’s Mane Mushroom

Not only can Lion’s Mane improve brain function, but it may also help diminish the anxious symptoms associated with anxiety as well as depression. Initial studies are showing that it may do so by upregulating neurogenesis in the hippocampus of mice. The hippocampus is the area of the brain that is thought to be responsible for regulating emotional responses and memory.

Consider using this stack as a long term trial because there are no quick effects. Although it can boost our alertness for up to six hours, it also takes up to twelve weeks to reach its full effect.

To combine these supplements together, as always know how much of each you need. This usually never means using the dose you would if you were taking them by themselves and could have some unwanted negative effects.

Buy these in bulk because you need enough to get you to the 12-week period and then beyond.

  • Ginkgo Biloba: 240mg/day
  • Lion’s Mane Mushroom: 500mg/day
  • Bacopa Monnieri: 100mg twice daily

Lion’s Mane Mushroom Stack

This is another popular stack and unlike the one above, it gives very quick results and often long term results. It is shown to improve memory retention and helps you maintain your brain health

If you increase the amount of choline available to your brain, you will have an easier time with learning and remembering new things, as well as a variety of other brain health benefits that can improve your life as a whole.

With regard to attention, if you combine Alpha GPC with coffee or caffeine supplements it increases reaction times and attention levels in those under stress.

Aniracetam has a pretty good reputation as a very effective memory enhancer. It is said to improve our functional memory and to reverse memory impairment.

Aniracetam is considered to be one of the best nootropics for improving focus and concentration.

The Stack

When we include a racetam to a stack we really need to add in a high-quality choline supplement like Alpha GPC or CDP Choline to make sure we have enough choline available for transformation to acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter most responsible for cognition.

  • Fish Oil: 1 gram
  • Alpha GPC: 300mg
  • Lion’s Mane Mushroom: 750mg

A big benefit of NALT is for memory protection against stress. L-tyrosine can increase adrenaline concentrations and reverse memory loss caused by stress. One of the main benefits of N-acetyl-L-tyrosine is related to handling stress.

Alpha GPC

Choline can help us retain our memories and might even mitigate age-related memory loss. Research shows that supplementing with Choline can enhance our learning ability.

It is thought that Alpha-GPC acts as a dopaminergic, which means that it can enhance our mood, motivation and pleasure.

Pre-Made Nootropic Stacks

Mind Lab Pronootropic stacks

I like to mention Mind Lab Pro first when talking about pre-made nootropic stacks simply because it targets everything, it’s a whole brain optimizer that works on mood, stress, focus and concentration, and memory. Most other premium nootropic stacks focus on one target. That could be memory enhancement, focus, and or concentration. While these are great if that is only what you are looking for Opti Nutra goes all in.

You know what is in the formula and how much of each of the 11 ingredients is in the formula. These 11 ingredients are there for more than one purpose. They do more than one thing and complement each other.

Each of these ingredients is premium ingredients and they include some patented and branded forms.

Awaken Gold

Awaken Gold follows on the footsteps of Awaken Alchemy. Here’s what they say about Alchemy. ” It will assist you in fueling your ingenuity, unleashing your creativity, and developing the amazing possibilities of your mind”

Having said that, Awaken Gold brings one more ingredient to the party and that is the Noopept.

Noopept stimulates the cholinergic processes of our brain. It enhances memory and learning for real brain boosting. Don’t get turned off because of the synthetic nature of Noopept. It is relatively harmless.

With Noopept, Awaken Gold gives us a much stronger brain boost as compared to Awaken Alchemy.
